Partnership conversion to Sole Proprietor

I am a partner in a general partnership.  My partner no longer wants to be involved in the business and is willing to leave with no obligations from myself.  I would like to continue running the business and am confident I can continue on my own.  Is it legal to end the partnership and continue the business as a sole proprietor?
