Hi RalphWz

Welcome, and thank you for trying our system. how can we help you?

Hey Guideye

I have more than a couple of questions

namely  I am looking for some general information about opening my own store, what would it take and so on, can you help?

Ok

What have you research so far?  have you done a cash-flow to see how much money you would need to start and operate your business for a year?  what about projections (do you know how much you need to sell in a month/to break even)?  Are you looking for a retail space, or are you going to use the web?

Hi

Havent done that yet, If you have some ideas where to start, I am all ears

Well the following are my suggestions:

First research your costs,

Start up/one time

Legal

Invetory

Start-up Marketing Expense such as your website

Marketing Expense (not month to  month expenses) such as going to a trade show

Initial Design, creation and other cost

Ongoing expense (month-to-month)

Sales & Marketing Expense, advertising, meeting with clients, etc

Owner's Draw (your pay)

Employees or Consultants

Insurance

Telephone and utilities

Professional fees (eg, lawyer and accountant)

other fees

thank you

where can I find this information? do you know of helpful links?

Well

For instance this website, but also you may like to check out the Fashion Center BID website www.fashioncenter.com, they have good resources that will help you get started.

Thanks for the info, the

Thanks for the info, the website is very helpful, quick question, I am thinking on also opening a retail store, do you think I should do both, or just concentrate on one at the moment?

The usual suggestion is to

The usual suggestion is to concentrate on one or the other as they operate differently.  If you design and market your own product, your concern will be on getting the correct manufacturer to produce your products and market them to retail stores.  As a retailer, you are worried about your product offering, acquiring and selling enough inventories to meet demand, and marketing your store.  I think in terms of time, operations, and whether or not your product is going to actually sell, you may be better of concentrating on one or the other.  What you can do is start wholesaling and retail your product online.

Good info

I think I am going to go with manufacturing and retailing my own product through a website.  What steps should I take?

Hey RalphWz The basics are:

Hey RalphWz

The basics are: If you decide on getting a business name, and to open a business bank account you can set up a DBA, and get a tax Id follow this link for more information:

for the retail website, I think most providers have a basic package you can use for e-commerce, I used Yahoo for another project, their system was pretty decent if you did not want to manage the website.

Thanks, I will take a

Thanks, I will take a look.
